Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga: Complete Guide to the Om-Shaped Island

The two-Linga mystery

Devotees believe Omkareshwar darshan is complete only after visiting both Omkareshwar (on the island) and Mamaleshwar (on the south bank). Some traditions consider both halves of the same Jyotirlinga.

Darshan timings & aarti

Mangala Aarti 5:00 AM, Madhyanha Aarti 12:25 PM, Sandhya Aarti 8:20 PM, Shayan Aarti 9:00 PM. Sanctum entry typically 5:30 AM – 9:30 PM.

Parikrama of Mandhata Island

7 km circumambulation around the entire Om-shaped island. Takes 2.5–3 hours on foot, passes Gauri Somnath, 24 Avatar temples, Siddhanath and the cave of Adi Shankaracharya.

How to reach

77 km from Indore (2 hrs), 140 km from Ujjain (3.5 hrs). Direct buses from Indore. Most pilgrims combine it with Ujjain in a 2-day trip.

Boat rides & Narmada sangam

Don't miss the boat across to the island (₹15–₹20). At Nemawar (45 km away) you can also visit the Narmada-Kaveri sangam.
